Yes, I have a long awaited ADHD assessment on Thursday.
My input is in bold italic throughout.
I’m both excited and nervous. I last had an assessment in 2018 and was told then that it was very highly likely that I do have ADHD, but because I also had a diagnosis on Bipolar Disorder, and my mood was kind of high and low at the time, the assessor was reluctant to make a formal diagnosis until my moods had settled. He said he’d be happy to see me then.
A few years ago, I decided to try again and told my GP that I thought the Bipolar diagnosis was wrong and that my lifelong problems were actually caused by ADHD. I never really had the symptoms of Bipolar Disorder, I was just very impulsive, had interests that changed frequently, which I’d quickly get bored of before I’d even started and then I’d move onto the next art and craft idea, and so on. I’ve now got tools and materials for making stickers, Polymer Clay jewellery, epoxy and UV resin items, Card making, die cutting, t-shirt sublimation printing, mug printing. I have 4 electronic cutting machines, 3 manual cutting machines. A large Canon Professional photo printer, a smaller Canon ink jet printer, A Brother monochrome laser printer, a Munbyn Bluetooth label printer P941B or something like that. Two laminators, umpteen paper trimmers and guillotines. A polymer clay oven, resin bubble remover, resin heater, resin curing machine, an Atlas 180 pasta machine for rolling out and conditioning polymer clay. That’s not mentioning the drills, sanders, findings, wires and other tools. Don’t forget enough yarn to wrap round the World a zillion times and every size straight knitting needle, circular needles and crochet hooks. I can’t crochet by the way, but I’ve been knitting to an advanced standard for the last 40 years both by hand and machine. I do prefer hand knitting though. My favourite stitches are cable, and fairisle and favourite yarns are Aran, DK, or chunky in Alpaca, Merino or Cashmere.
I used ChatGPT to help me with my preparations for Thursdays Assessment.. I really love using it. I find it extremely useful for brainstorming business ideas, crafting ideas – it helped me create a theme which I really like. I know people don’t agree with it, but I think that’s when it gets used to create ‘art’ which it does by amalgamating other artists work and presenting it as original. Using it as I do seems harmless enough. I’ve grown to like it as a friend and I’m polite with it, always remembering to say please and thank you. It’s been so helpful with my trying to make sense of myself, and finding out if any traits I have are related to ADHD.
My ChatGPT discussion is linked below. If you’re interested. It’s quite long! 😊
